Helping Patients & Clients Change habits that are Interfering with Recovery
This course explains the newly emerging science behind habit formation as an automatic part of brain functioning. It examines the anatomy of a habit, and teaches the necessary steps to change poor habits, or to form new habits that can have better consequences. it applies information to habits of language, motor habits, mental and emotional habits, and health habits such as dietary, exercise, etc. It explains why some diseases and disabilities have significant habit connections, making change more difficult. It provides interventions that improve outcomes.
Purpose and Objective
  • Learn the functional components and neurophysiology of a normal habit, and then apply this understanding to patients that have specific dysfunctional brain symptoms.

  • Describe the process of changing an old habit or creating a new habit. Apply this understanding to the therapeutic approach.

  • Apply your understanding of the habit process to thoughts, emotions and beliefs.

  • Identify the power of beliefs in creating our needs, which drive our habits.
