Prevention of Medical Errors - for Acupuncturists

Prevention of Medical Errors
for Acupuncturists
This course was created to inform licensed health practitioners of this growing epidemic and to foster improved patient safety. It meets the criteria of the Florida Statute 456.013 that mandates a two-hour course on prevention of medical errors as part of the total hours of continuing education required for licensure renewal for the state of Florida, and provides contact hours to participants in other states, as well.

This course is exactly the same as the Prevention of Medical Errors listed for other health professions, but it has a different CE Broker tracking number, specific for Acupuncture. If you have multiple professional licenses, the completion of this course will also give you credit for those other licenses, but you have to contact us by email or phone so that we can be prompted to do this for you manually. Or, if you complete the other Prevention of Medical Errors course, we can apply that credit toward your acupuncture license, but it has to be done manually. We are happy to do this for you.
Purpose and Objective
At the completion of the course the participant will be able to:
  • Identify the factors that impact the occurrence of medical errors, and reflect on the presence of any of these factors in your place of employment.

  • Consider contraindications and indications for management of errors, recognizing error-prone situations that have been commonly described, and seek to make those situations safer in your own working environment.

  • Specifically identify pharmacological components of error-prone patient situations respective to your discipline, in the over-all management of patient safety.

  • Explore processes you and others might use to improve patient outcomes, including aspects of medical documentation and communication, and structured problem solving techniques.

  • Become aware of your responsibilities for reporting medical errors and the surrounding controversies.

  • Consider the safety needs of special populations.

  • Cite needs for public education and empowerment.
