Responsible and Compassionate Communication - ~~~~~

Responsible and Compassionate Communication
~~~~~
The course is designed to assist the therapist/nurse in communicating with the client/patient, and in assessing how the patient/client’s language (or nurse/therapist’s language) is creating obstacles to successful relationships, and the ability to meet healthcare needs. It demonstrates how to teach new patterns in expression that foster empowerment, cooperation and mutual respect. This understanding not only enhances our abilities as healthcare professionals to connect with our patients and clients, it also can be taught to our clients and patients to help them improve their quality of relationships and the quality of their lives. It is based largely upon work done by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, presented as Nonviolent Communication (www.cnvc.org), and others who have elaborated upon Dr. Rosenberg’s approaches. It shows us all how to identify, clarify and understand how aspects of verbal communication change relationships, which then enhances our abilities to meet needs.
