In addition to board approval for CEs, this course is designed to meet the specific requirements of the Florida Statute requiring 1 CH of continuing education for those providing direct care to patients with Alzheimer's disease or related disorders in long-term care. This course is approved to meet the requirements of the Department of Elder Affairs for the nursing home one-hour requirement, Training Provider #ALF 754, Curriculum Approval #NH AD 7469. It is re-approved every three years by the DOEA. Next renewal date is 12/1/2017.
 
Purpose and Objective
 
This program emphasizes direct care of those with cognitive impairment. At the conclusion of the program the participant will be able to:
  • Distinguish between normal aging and memory loss from Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.


  • Identify the characteristics of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.


  • Communicate effectively with residents who have Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.
